Post: The Crown Was Mine All Along: A Birthday, A Book, and a Sacred Gathering

In November, Dr. Shaniqua Jones marked a powerful milestone—not just another year of life, but a moment of reflection, reclamation, and restoration.

Surrounded by community, creativity, and care, she celebrated her birthday with the release of her newest book, The Crown Was Mine All Along, during an intimate book-signing experience that was anything but ordinary.

Held as a sacred gathering rather than a traditional launch, the event invited guests into a space where poetry met healing, truth met tenderness, and celebration met purpose.

More Than a Book Signing

This was not your average book signing.

It was a Tiny Desk–style experience—carefully curated, deeply personal, and rooted in restoration. Guests were welcomed into an atmosphere of warmth and intention, where every detail reflected the heart behind the book itself.

Live readings from The Crown Was Mine All Along filled the room with raw honesty and lyrical reflection. The words spoke to survival, self-reclamation, and the quiet strength it takes to rise whole after seasons of fire.

Between readings, conversation flowed freely. Laughter, tears, and moments of stillness coexisted—each one honored, each one held.

A Celebration of Life, Voice, and Becoming

As a birthday celebration, the event was a praise report in motion.

It honored not only Dr. Jones’ journey as an author and restorative justice practitioner, but also the woman behind the work—the one who has learned to carry her crown with grace, conviction, and unapologetic truth.

Guests described the room as full of love, Black excellence, and Black girl magic. Many shared that simply being present shifted something within them—a reminder that when we gather with intention, healing happens naturally.

Community Care in Real Time

True to Dr. Jones’ restorative roots, the experience centered community care. The gathering felt less like a performance and more like a collective exhale—a space where people could be seen, affirmed, and reminded of their own crowns.

From music that set the tone, to conversation that invited reflection, to moments that encouraged connection, the evening embodied the spirit of the book itself: a return to self.

The Crown Was Always There

The Crown Was Mine All Along is more than a collection of poetry—it is a testimony.

It chronicles the journey of a woman who survived betrayal, expectation, and silence, only to rise whole, holy, and fully crowned. The event brought that journey to life, allowing attendees to not just read the words, but feel them.

As one guest shared afterward, “When you learn to sit in different rooms, the conversations definitely change.”

That night, the conversation was clear: the crown was never lost—it was simply waiting to be reclaimed.
