We are thrilled to share that Dr. Shaniqua Jones, founder of Purple Path, was recently featured on ABC7 Chicago to discuss the upcoming Third Annual Purple Path Healing Retreat. This retreat is a community-led event focused on healing from trauma.
Dr. Jones shared her personal journey that led to the creation of the retreat. In September 2022, she experienced the loss of her mother and her husband’s heart attack and stroke. Despite these challenges, she was inspired to create a healing retreat. The first retreat took place in April 2023 with 15 participants and has since grown to over 200 participants.
The retreat addresses the need for proactive mental health care and aims to normalize discussions around mental well-being. Dr. Jones emphasized the importance of communal healing and breaking the stigma associated with mental health. Participants range in age from four to late 70s, demonstrating the retreat’s wide appeal.
The event will include discussions on the seven main types of trauma, family-style meals, gift bags, and on-site therapy. Dr. Jones advocates for confronting trauma in a safe and brave environment, with an emphasis on follow-up and community support.
The name “Purple Path” holds a special meaning, symbolizing royalty and elegance, and is inspired by Dr. Jones and her husband’s favorite color, purple. It represents a journey of healing and shared experiences.
Interested individuals can register for the retreat through Dr. Jones’s website: purplepathbydrj.com. The retreat is held annually in April, with a biannual retreat in October.
Dr. Jones expressed gratitude for the support and shared positive testimonials from past participants.
